What information will I receive about the complaint?

Who has lodged the complaint, what the complaint is about, and what policies you may have violated that require a formal investigation.

You will also be given information on the complaint process at LAU, including your rights and responsibilities regarding discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct.

What happens during the interview with the investigation committee?

Both complainants and respondents will be asked to describe the conduct that allegedly violated LAU policy as well as any other pertinent information. The committee may also ask relevant questions. The complainant and the respondent may also ask questions of the committee.

What happens after my interview with the investigation committee?

The investigation process is required to be prompt and the committee should be able to provide a rough estimate of when the process will be completed.

Who will be informed about the complaint made against me?

Only those who must be informed: the respondent (i.e., the person against whom the complaint is lodged), the Title IX Director, the University General Legal Counsel, members of the investigation committee, and witnesses called to provide information to the formal investigation

If I am a student, will my professors know about the complaint made against me?

Only if your professors need to know—that is, if an intermediate remedy needs to be implemented (e.g. moving the complainant to a new section to separate him/her from you as an alleged harasser) and/or if they have information that is necessary to the investigation (that is, they are needed as witnesses).

If I am an employee, will my supervisor or co-workers know about the complaint made against me?

Only if your supervisor and/or co-workers need to know—that is, if an intermediate remedy needs to be implemented (e.g., moving the complainant to a new office to separate him/her from you as an alleged harasser) and/or if they have information that is necessary to the investigation (that is, they are needed as witnesses).

Do I have a right to appeal the decision?

Yes, contact the Title IX Office for the Title IX Appeal policy.

How long will the entire process take?

The entire complaint process up until a final decision is reached (not including an appeal) should not take longer than 60 days.
